There are certain points that one needs to know before starting the process of importing cars and motor vehicles to Timor Leste; such as the age of the vehicle, custom rules and regulations, import permits and others. Generally, it is not allowed to import light passenger and mixed vehicles that are older than five years from the original manufacture date to the date the vehicle is imported. Exceptions to this include the followings:
Payable taxes on imported motor vehicles
The following different taxes are applicable during importation of a motor vehicle:
*If the vehicles cost more than 70,000 US
* If the value of the Motor vehicles is higher than $7,000
Where CIF = Cost of the vehicle, Insurance and Freight
Required Permits
Importers are expected to obtain an import permit issued by the National Director of Ground Transportation prior to importing a vehicle.
